7-Day: Let it rain
Valid Sunday May 22, 2022
The next week looks damp for once.
An upper level trough is beginning to swing into our region as an upper level high sets up off the coast of Florida. These will act in tandem to send PLENTY of moisture into our region over the next 5 days. For your Sunday expect highs to be much more reasonable down around 80 degrees with widespread afternoon showers and storms. If you didn’t see rain Saturday I can all but guarantee you see some by late evening on Sunday, although the highest totals will likely come in and around the mountains. No widespread severe storms are expected but I would not at all be surprised to see one or two storms become strong to possibly severe with small hail and damaging winds the threats.
Going into the work week not a whole lot of change is expected. The upper level system will absolutely crawl east bringing plentiful moisture into our area and keeping afternoon showers around. Showers will once again be widespread on Monday before becoming a bit less consistent on Tuesday and Wednesday. These showers will still be around, though, so keep an umbrella handy.
Temperatures will be much nicer as well (if you hate the heat). Highs on Monday will be in the upper-70s with only low/mid-70s expected by Tuesday and Wednesday as the upper trough gets closest.
A low pressure system is expected to develop to our west on Wednesday and push a front into the area. This will bring more widespread rain into the area by Thursday. With a little luck this front will clear the region Thursday night ushering in clearing skies for Friday with highs again right around 80. Total rainfall amounts over the next 5 days look pretty good with an average of at least 1-2″ currently expected through Friday morning.
Looking ahead to Memorial Day Weekend the long range models look absolutely GORGEOUS for Saturday and Sunday but there is some potential for a rain maker to drop in by Monday. That’s a long ways out and much can change so stay tuned!
