Severe Storms Possible on Friday

A cold front will bring a line of storms to the region on Friday morning, a few of which could become severe.
The Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight risk, or level 2 of 5, for severe storms on Friday afternoon and evening for most of North Georgia.

A line of storms is expected to develop ahead of an approaching cold front and reach our region after lunch on Friday. A few of these storms could be severe and produce damaging winds, small hail and perhaps an isolated tornado. Models are in disagreement on precise timing, as well as mode of storms. Some modeling indicates a more broken line of storms which would cause a slight increase in the tornado risk versus a more linear, contiguous line.
In addition there could be two rounds of storms, one during the early afternoon and another during the evening. The model below is one model’s interpretation of what radar could look like late Friday evening.

Ultimately I believe the highest risk will occur over the western half of the region but stay tuned for any changes.
